چکیده

Peer-to-peer computing is a remarkable tool that has emerged in recent years, most notably in the form of music sharing services, but in a variety of other interesting guises as well. Just as the design of web browsers has required many generations to reach a certain level of usefulness and usability, service designs for peer-to-peer computing environments present numerous unresolved technical challenges. A central challenge lies in the management, sharing, and exchange of heterogeneous resources that reside across any highly distributed, “leaderless” peer-to-peer environment. In future p2p computing scenarios, these heterogeneous resources will naturally include the basic building blocks of communications bandwidth, data storage, and computational power but eventually will also include more abstract resources such as databases, directories, catalogs, resource maps, security keys, identities, membership lists, price lists and many other information resources. In this paper we present an IRTL (Information Resource Transaction Layer) middleware architecture that addresses some of the technical challenges associated with heterogeneous resource transactions in the p2p-computing environment. This IRTL will facilitate discovery, valuation, negotiation, coordination, charging and exchange of resources among peer users as a middleware platform. The proposed ITRL will provide an adaptive service that integrates heterogeneous peer-based resources through a service interface independent of any particular system. This paper demonstrates the architecture and design of the IRTL and its mechanisms and protocols for information transaction. By marrying recently developed information resource description facilities with generic functional middleware managers, it presents a middleware service layer with rich support for information resource transactions and resolution. We conclude by discussing the applications and services of the IRTL middleware in the context of the p2p computing, the GRID, and context-aware services.

Charging Control and Transaction Accounting Mechanisms Using IRTL (Information Resource Transaction Layer) Middleware for P2P Services

One of the many challenges associated with p2p computing is providing mechanisms for control over accounting transactions among peers. With the increase in the number and variety of p2p applications, there is a need to distinguish between services that can be charged and services that can operate without charging mechanisms. In this paper we present an Information Resource Transaction Layer (IR...

Web Services for Peer-to-Peer Resource Discovery on the Grid

Several features of today’s Grids are based on centralized or hierarchical services. However, as Grid sizes increase, some of their functions should be decentralized to avoid bottlenecks and guarantee scalability. A way to provide Grid scalability is to adopt Peer-to-Peer (P2P) models and protocols to implement non hierarchical decentralized Grid services and systems. A core Grid functionality ...

An Improved Resource Discovery Approach Using P2P Model for Condor: A Grid Middleware

Resource Discovery in Grids is critical for efficient resource allocation and management. Heterogeneous nature and dynamic availability of resources make resource discovery a challenging task. As numbers of nodes are increasing from tens to thousands, scalability is essentially desired. Peer-to-Peer (P2P) techniques, on the other hand, provide effective implementation of scalable services and a...

GridTP Services for Grid Transaction Processing

We propose a new service-oriented Grid Transaction Processing architecture called GridTP based on the OGSA platform and the X/Open DTP model. GridTP services provide a consistent and effective way of making existing, autonomously managed databases available within Grid environments. In the Data Virtualization Services layer, Grid applications, via the WSDL-style TX portType, delineate global tr...

Network Sensitive Reconfiguration of Distributed Applications

Large-scale, dynamic, and heterogeneous networks of computational resources promise to provide high performance and scalability to computationally intensive applications, but these environments also introduce the need for complex resource management strategies. This paper introduces actor-based programming abstractions and a middleware framework to relieve developers from considering non-functi...
